"5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant !! 12 Mar 2013

"This is, by far, the most definitive and well researched book I've ever read about Rocky or any other boxer.
At first, the detail seemed tedious to me, but I soon found the beautiful flow and rhythm of Cameron's writing, and I couldn't put the book down for long.
I am anxiously awaiting Vol 2 !!
"Thoroughly enjoyed part 1. The depth of research and reporting, which extends to brief biographies of Marciano's opponents, makes this the best biography of the late champ so far. Look forward to part 2."

"John Cameron has done the most extensive research I have seen into Rocky Marciano. In stripping away some of the mythical lore that has grown up around the only undefeated heavyweight champion in history, Cameron has allowed the person of Marciano to be revealed, and he is just as big a hero if not bigger than ever. A great work."
Chuck Marbry
"John Cameron has done a marvelous job in researching Rocky Marciano such that one can sense the presence of the Rock today. Mr Cameron has done Marciano fans proud in giving this great champion the honor and respect he so deserves. This work lends credence and honor to the Heavyweight Championship belt and what it take and means to be "Heavyweight Champion" which has not been upheld, in my opinion, by today's titleholders. In his day, Rocky was a Champion of the People, especially Italian American people. Mr Cameron's work inspires a new generation of boxing fans to look back and discover the "Triangle of Success" ( Sense of Duty, Respect for Authority and Family, and a Strong Mental Discipline) that Rocky lived by and propelled this incredible man to the crown and into the hearts of All People. I can't wait for Volume 2. Cheers to you Mr. Cameron and Thank you."

"I was intrigued by this product for two reasons. First, I'm a huge boxing fan. I could talk boxing forever, and Rocky Marciano was certainly one of the best. Some say he was the greatest of all time, and given his undefeated status and knockout percentage, I don't argue with people who say so.
Secondly, I'm a journalist. Therefore, I respect the years and years of research and digging John had to do to to make this project. He worked hard to uncover new details about Rocky's life and the results will surprise you. Yes, Rocky was an Italian American. Yes, he's the only undefeated heavyweight champion. Yes, his high knockout percentage of 87.75% is the highest of all heavyweight champions (including George Foreman and Mike Tyson). But these are things we already know about. John dug deep into the well and uncovered some interesting facts about the Brockton Blockbuster, and that's what makes this book so revealing and puts it ahead of the others, in my opinion.
If you want to hear candid details about Rocky's (amateur) loss to Coley Wallace, his stint in the military, his crippling battle with Carmine Vingo and other events early in Rocky's life that are rarely researched, I strongly suggest this book. You're going to learn a lot more than you already knew about Rocky, and I anxiously await volume 2."

"When I heard another biography on Rocky Marciano was coming out, I thought I knew the story from the previous ones I read but as a huge fan of Rocky and boxing, I was looking forward to any new material I could get. Well I was more than happy and surprised at the amount of new and interesting information the author has presented to us. The book is very well researched, complete with extensive chapter notes. It is a no-nonsense approach to this great champions life. It brings him out as a human and sheds light on his struggle to rise through lifes obstacels and attain his highest goals. This approach I think, makes Rocky all the more impressive and someone we can relate to. The subject was not put forth as a mythical hero but a true human hero to many which is refreshing in our present world filled with many built up figures with no foundation. This is a work to be proud of and I eagerly wait for Volume 2."

As an avid reader of boxing books it is always a wonder to me how few books there are on the market about Rocky Marciano, particularly in comparison to some other heavyweight greats, particularly Ali, who seemingly has a new book published on him daily. Whilst Marciano is still trailing in Ali's wake in terms of quantity Mr Cameron has done an excellent job of ensuring the gap in terms of quality is reduced. This really is a first rate book covering Marciano's life, military career and early fights. Like so many legends of the sport there are many myths that have grown about Marciano and in this Cameron does well to unpick the truths from the half truths and downright lies.
The level of research on the book really is faultless, particularly around Marciano's opponents and their careers prior and subsequent to facing the Rock, allowing readers to get a genuine insight into their true abilites. The book is not without fault though, the typeface is a bit all over the shop at times and the whole thing would have benefitted from a decent proof reader. However please don't let this put you off when one measures the size of this book and quality of the research against the price it is a genuine bargain. I have no idea how many volumes the author plans to release but I will be first in the queue for each and every one.

This is a great book very well researched and leaves the reader wanting the next volume NOW! Everyone can enjoy this book who has a slight interest in history in sport. The grammer and spelling in the book can get annoying but it is easy to look past as it is a riveting read, maybe a new editor or proof reader is required.
